INVESTOR VISAS

The Australian migration program offers various visas for investors or successful business professionals that seek to immigrate via the investor visa pathways. Herein below we give a skeleton outline of the three investment pathways of entry.

THE INVESTOR VISA STREAM

The Investor Visa (IV) is for people who want to make a designated investment of at least AUD 1.5m in an Australian state or territory and want to maintain business and investment activity in Australia after the original investment has matured. Some of the obligations and requirements are:

  • Be under 55 years of age.

  • Score at least 65 on the points test.

  • Have a high level of management skill in relation to the eligible investment or qualifying business activity.

  • Have at least three years' experience of direct involvement in managing one or more qualifying businesses or eligible investments.

  • During the two fiscal years immediately before you are invited to apply, have legally acquired net business, investment and personal assets of at least AUD 2.25m that are available for legal transfer to Australia within two years of the visa being granted.

  • Make a designated investment of at least AUD 1.5m in a state or territory government security using unencumbered funds.

  • For at least one of the five fiscal years immediately before you are invited to apply, have directly managed one of the following:

    • A qualifying business in which you, your partner or you and your partner combined had at least 10 per cent ownership interest, or

    • Eligible investments owned by you, your partner or you and your partner combined of at least AUD 1.5m.

  1. This IV offers a pathway to Australian permanent residence provided that you fulfill your visa obligations.

  2. With this visa you can work in a new or existing business in Australia, travel in and out of Australia any number of times, study in Australia, have your family accompany you to Australia (they will have access to work and study rights).

 

Further General Requirements:

Apart from above, there are various other requirements that must be met (depending on the visa type) such as:​

  • Meet the additional criteria for the stream in which you apply.

  • You and your family members must meet the health and character requirements.

  • You must be invited to apply for the visa.
